Product Review - Our Favorite Diaper Bag, the Petunia Picklebottom City Caryall

I really spent quite a bit of time looking for the perfect diaper bag. I knew I would be nursing for at least the first 6 months and I knew we would be using cloth diapers. This said, we needed quite a bit of room. Not to mention I'm a large purse carrying girl and we have 3 small children. We needed a family size diaper bag and I'm a bit of a germ-aphobe so my heart was set on the Petunia Picklebottom City Caryall. I fell in love with the roominess, the pockets to help with organization, and absolutely cannot live without the exterior changing pad! The changing pad is removable for washing (and to remove some bulkiness once baby is older) and I've never had that awkward moment where I felt like setting baby Breccan down on a dirty changing table while I dug around searching for the changing pad.

I simply set our PBB on the changing table and unfold the pad and then place baby Breccan right on the pad and I have everything I need right at the perfect height!Other features include handle options. There are two shorter handles and they are VERY sturdy. In addition, there is an adjustable strap you can use as a shoulder or messenger style. That longer strap quickly comes off and can be replaced with two very short straps suitable for attaching to a shopping cart or stroller handle. No more messing around digging under your groceries to find the diaper bag full of toys and treats! I'm included a bunch of pictures to give you a better idea of what the PBB looks like. These aren't staged very well and were taken quickly to help answer questions from another mother in search of a cloth diaper friendly bag.

Mommy's Molasses Morsels! (a delicious recipe for a soft molasses cookie your whole family will love)

This particular recipe took quite a few tries to get it right. If you like a hard molasses cookie...please google again and try something else. This is definitely the recipe for those who love a chewey (ie: soft) molasses cookie.

1 cup packed brown sugar (the cookie pictured was baked using regular brown sugar, but in general we preferred the flavor of dark brown sugar)

3/4 cup high quality lard

1/4 cup organic molasses

1 egg (we used a large farm fresh egg from a local farmer - you may need to use 2 eggs if you purchase the smaller store bought variety)

2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon salt

***3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for not mix with other ingredients)

Preheat oven to 340F. Mix brown sugar, lard, molasses & egg. Once well mixed, add remaining ingredients.

Shape dough using a rounded teaspoon. Dip tops in granulated sugar. Place on parchment paper 2 inches apart on your cookie sheet.

Bake for 13 minutes, remove, & let cool.

Product Review - Cowmooflage Infant Car Seat by Britax

Overall, I give the Cowmooflage Infant Car Seat by Britax 4.75 stars. I think it's best to give a breakdown of pros and cons to help explain my rating:

Easy to install (there's a leveler and the instructions are very easy to follow)

Very well built - steel reinforced seat feels high quality and there's not doubt your little prince or princess will be safe

Attractive - love the different prints available by Britax - and the Cowmooflage fit is so well (we are dairy farmers)

Fabulous snug fit - even a tiny baby will fit safe and secure in this car seat. There is lots of padding

Easy to take apart and clean - no car seat is simple to take apart, but I would say this one is easy enough. I didn't break a sweat or cuss at all and the colors didn't bleed or fade during laundering

Odd sized - this particular car seat doesn't fit well in shopping carts...most of the time I did my grocery shopping with 2 carts because the base of this seat didn't fit in the carrier part of the cart and had to sit where I would usually put groceries

Heavy - I LOVE the solid construction, but as my baby became nearly impossible to carry the car seat gracefully.

**We did not get in any accidents while our little prince was in the vehicle using this car seat, but I did have a few close calls and always felt very safe knowing our littlest guy was safe in his Britax Cowmooflage Infant Car Seat

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I did NOT receive any reimbursement from Britax for this review - the opinions are solely my own.
Book Review – The Real World/Hugo The Happy Starfish ebook by Suzy Liebermann
Review by Crystal J. Casavant-Otto
Our family absolutely adored The Real World/Hugo The Happy Starfish! This book was the perfect length for small children, and the vivid images and bright colors made it an absolutely engaging read. Even the newest member of our family (who is just 6 months) had a fun time checking out the pictures. This was the first book we’ve read by Author, Suzy Liebermann, but we are excited to learn she has an entire list of children’s books to choose from. The children are as enthusiastic as I am about purchasing additional stories about Hugo and his friends.
I would highly recommend The Real World/Hugo The Happy Starfish to other families! This one gets two thumbs up from each member of our family!!!!
Suzy Liebermann – Author Bio:
I have not always been a children's book author! I discovered my love for creating children's books at the "old age" of 37, while I was working with children from mostly distressed backgrounds. They inspired me with their attitude despite their questionable living situations.
After studying design and finishing a master's degree I lived, studied and taught in many different countries and cultures. Previously a teacher for Language and Cultural Art, I happily traded in my 9-to-5 gig for a rewarding career as a children's author.
I have always had a love for teaching and helping others. Being able to share the wisdom of the right attitude through my stories gives me a new goal to make a difference in the world.
Book Details for The Real World:
Description - Come on a sea adventure with HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH as he finds out that HAPPINESS begins with CURIOSITY.
THE REAL WORLD (THE ISLAND OF CURIOSITY) contains a great educational lesson about the value of curiosity.
On the ISLAND OF CURIOSITY Hugo and his friends are captures by a pirate, who wants to take away their happiness and their curiosity.
The little starfish fires up his imagination and manages to convince the pirate to become their friend.
Hugo is a little starfish whose home is at the bottom of the wide ocean. He longs to visit the real world, and one day he decides to go and find it. Hugo's journey to happiness isn't quite as straightforward as he hopes though. He is sent to a series of different islands where he is taught important character lessons.
By the end of his journey, Hugo has visited fourteen islands, made many more friends, and, most importantly, learned how to be a better starfish.
‘HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH - ISLAND ADVENTURES’ is packed with life lessons for kids, showing them the importance of appreciation, patience, tolerance and optimism amongst others.
Teaching children life skills can be tricky, but with this exciting book your kids will come across some of the most important lessons there are to be learned. Like Hugo, their journey to the real world will be full of character lessons along the way.
In Hugo, children, parents, and educators will discover a lovable and engaging role model with whom they can identify.
The story consists of 29 gorgeous illustrations showing a colorful and magical underwater world.
Children will laugh at the delightful characters, hold their breaths in suspense and love to read this story over and over.
The book is suitable as a read aloud book for preschoolers or a self-read book for older children.
The book comes with a number of worksheets which are downloadable at no cost on our website.
The book is offered in two editions (a version with Spanish introductory vocabulary and an English only version) as well as in different languages such as German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese.
There are more HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH stories waiting to be discovered. Make sure to read THE LAST BULLY and THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS, THE MAGIC OF THE MOMENT, ONE STEP AT ATIME and many more.
Through his adventures, Hugo learns many valuable lessons of character, life skills, and ecological alertness – all amid the backdrop of a magical underwater world and mystical islands.
The stories were developed in conjunction with the author’s teaching experience at an International Baccalaureate® School and they support the different learner profiles and attitudes of the IB PYP curriculum.
