Book Blog Tour & Review! Margo Dill's Caught Between Two Curses

Book Description: Seventeen-year-old Julie Nigelson is cursed. So is her entire family. And it’s not just any-old-regular curse, either—it’s strangely connected to the famous “Curse of the Billy Goat” on the Chicago Cubs.

Julie must figure out this mystery while her uncle lies in a coma and her entire love life is in ruins: her boyfriend Gus is pressuring her to have sex, while her best friend Matt is growing more attractive to her all the time.

Somehow, Julie must figure out how to save her uncle, her family’s future, and her own love life—and time is running out!

Crystal's Review:
Caught Between Two Curses by Margo Dill, is an interesting story about Julie Nigelson, your average 17 year old highschool student. Julie is faced with the dilemma I hope my 17 year old never faces, but one I remember too well: sex – to have or not to have?

When Julie finds her family in crisis somehow connected to the Cubs curse she is thrown into a world with even bigger questions than the sex dilemma posed originally. She’s confused to say the least and the sex issue with her boyfriend is still something she struggles with daily amongst all the other problems. I’m not a baseball fan but found the Cubs curse interesting as it was woven with the family issues Julie was facing. If you’re not a sports fan, don’t let that stop you from picking up a copy of Caught Between Two Curses.

In Caught Between Two Curses, love and sex, friends and lovers, friends and family are all met head on by the courageous and loveable Julie. Dill does a lovely job writing her characters and keeping the book moving. It’s a fast read and the pace is perfect for reading on the beach. Though some of the themes throughout the story are a bit ‘heavy’ (ie: sex), the book itself is a fun read for young adults and those young at heart! You’ll learn about the Billy Goat Curse of the Cubs baseball team and a spell threatening to ruin Julie’s family. The chapters end like a …To be continued sitcom where you can’t wait until next week’s episode to learn more. (That’s the best part about a book…you don’t have to wait!)
Caught Between Two Curses is well written and although it’s got that paranormal touch, the themes will hit home for young adults and anyone who has ever been a young adult. Dill is a great writer and as the cover suggests, Caught Between Two Curses is a fun read!

You Can Speak Your Mind, But Not On My Time?

Today's post title is inspired by the fabulous song that is likely going through your head right now "I still belong, don't get me wrong, you can speak your mind but not on my time...you can live your life, but this is my life..."etc... The topic however is inspired by a dear friend who recently said to me "why is it so hard for people to be real and have a conversation about things they disagree with?" I've been thinking about that queestion and the conversation that it inspired - what she was really talking about is feedback. Why is it so difficult to tell someone that you'd like them to do something differently? We beat around the bush, and sometimes never say what's on our mind. Isn't this really the rooot cause of relationship problems? The cause of dating mis-haps, family arguements, and the underlying issue that often results in anger and fighting? Before you answer, let me toss out some scenarios: 1) You're dating someone ...

Natural Remedies for Depression ?

Have you had those moments when you weren't feeling quite like yourself? Those negative thoughts were creeping in? clouding your judgment? making every day chores seem like amazing feats of heroism? If you've never felt like that - good for you! I on the other hand struggle with life's ups and downs. From depression during my divorce to post-partum depression, etc... I tend to be a very happy and optimistic person, but the flip side of that coin brings those days when staying in bed is more alluring than hopping in the shower and going through the motions of the day. There are some fabulous medications on the market today, and seeking the help of a healthcare professional is always a great idea. Sometimes I'm not feeling depressed, but I fear I'm headed there. I don't particularly care for some of the side effects of medications I have been on in the past, and a natural remedy can sometimes give me just the kick in the pants that I need to 'get happy...
