Every Mom Needs a Phone Booth

Oh yes! You heard me right - "Every Mom Needs a Phone Booth". Why? you may be wondering...

???

When I was a girl, Superman was a famous super hero who was synonymous with a phone booth. If you asked Superman followers "where does Clark Kent change into Superman?" most of us would answer quickly and tell you that he changed in a phone booth. My love of Superman didn't last long and I do not claim to be the expert on superheroes or Superman. I do however claim to be a bumbling idiot when it comes to being an adult. I don't say that because I want your pity - I say it because I am simply doing the best I can under the circumstances and when it comes to being a wife and mother, I'm usually just happy to have made it to bedtime without a visit to the ER. I no longer consider it a maternal crime to put children to bed in day clothes, and I've been known to allow macaroni and cheese for breakfast. Those examples may give you a clearer idea of why 'bumbling idiot' is suitable.

My children didn't come with an instruction manual that was specific to them. I lean on the Bible as my guide, but for some reason I cannot find any reference to teeth brushing or crayon eating and there is no map ready to guide me to whatever household monster has eaten all of our socks. Again, I am just happy that we are all alive at the end of the day. If you ask my children, it's an entirely different story. Their mother is their hero. I have powers beyond that of an average human. Here are just a few examples:

A single 'mommy kiss' can take the burn out of a paper cut or instantly heal a skinned knee.

Mommy hugs can help someone who isn't tired at all fall right to sleep.

A song sun by mommy right before bed can scare away monsters, dragons, and dinosaurs.

Mommy is all knowing and has the answers to every question imaginable.

Mommy is the best cook in the world and even cereal tastes better when mommy makes it.

That's a lot to live up to, and I didn't even mention that my son thinks I am the most beautiful girl in the world with the softest skin. This admiration leaves me breathless and speechless. I know as the children get older, they will come to the realization that I am simple. I do not have any super powers, and I don't even have a cape. In the meantime, I will enjoy every moment. In my mind I will be called "Captain Bumble" and my superhero outfit will be pink and purple with a sparkly cape and thigh high boots with sequins. Of course, I'll need a phone booth so I can change into my outfit ... I wouldn't want the rest of the world to know about the stained yoga pants I've been wearing since yesterday afternoon ...

I am no different than other mothers. You all deserve a phone booth, a super hero costume, and an alias. No matter what age your child is, or what they think of you, you are likely juggling a home, a job or career, relationships with friends, a husband/boyfriend/significant other, and all the demands of ordinary life. At 15, had you been given a video tape of your current life, you would have thought 'there's no way I can do all that'. But guess what? You are! You are holding it all together! Some days are easier than others, but the truth is you are amazing. Whether you recognize it or not, YOU are someones Super Hero!

May your paths be abundantly filled with lemons, sugar, sunshine, and phone booths!
~Crystal

**side note:
My Father traveled for work, and began to collect charms for my mother. She has since passed two heavily laden charm bracelets on to me. I am thinking it's time to buy just one last charm for those bracelets, what do you think: http://www.amazon.com/Phone-Booth-Charm-Sterling-Silver/dp/B004I6FJXU   ???????

You Can Speak Your Mind, But Not On My Time?

Today's post title is inspired by the fabulous song that is likely going through your head right now "I still belong, don't get me wrong, you can speak your mind but not on my time...you can live your life, but this is my life..."etc... The topic however is inspired by a dear friend who recently said to me "why is it so hard for people to be real and have a conversation about things they disagree with?" I've been thinking about that queestion and the conversation that it inspired - what she was really talking about is feedback. Why is it so difficult to tell someone that you'd like them to do something differently? We beat around the bush, and sometimes never say what's on our mind. Isn't this really the rooot cause of relationship problems? The cause of dating mis-haps, family arguements, and the underlying issue that often results in anger and fighting? Before you answer, let me toss out some scenarios: 1) You're dating someone ...

Natural Remedies for Depression ?

Have you had those moments when you weren't feeling quite like yourself? Those negative thoughts were creeping in? clouding your judgment? making every day chores seem like amazing feats of heroism? If you've never felt like that - good for you! I on the other hand struggle with life's ups and downs. From depression during my divorce to post-partum depression, etc... I tend to be a very happy and optimistic person, but the flip side of that coin brings those days when staying in bed is more alluring than hopping in the shower and going through the motions of the day. There are some fabulous medications on the market today, and seeking the help of a healthcare professional is always a great idea. Sometimes I'm not feeling depressed, but I fear I'm headed there. I don't particularly care for some of the side effects of medications I have been on in the past, and a natural remedy can sometimes give me just the kick in the pants that I need to 'get happy...
