5 Star Review for Hugh Fritz's "Public Display of Aggression" by Young Reader Carmen J. Otto

Thank you WOW! Women on Writing for including us in the book blog tour for Hugh Fritz's Book #2 in the Mystic Rampage Series, Public Display of Aggression. Earlier in the tour, my mom, Crystal sat down with Hugh for an interview and today, I, Carmen Otter get to share my own 5 Star Book Review for this fantastic read! I'm 14, so keep that in mind as you read the review. Please feel free to leave a comment or ask questions as I love "mail"!

First, here is a little bit about Public Display of Aggression:

Soleil and Flarence are immortal Genies who can bend the fundamental forces of the universe through willpower alone. For centuries, they have considered themselves the most formidable beings in the world, but some newcomers just might give them a run for their money.

Magic has always been limited to living things. Throughout his life, Soleil has never come across an object with supernatural capabilities. Now, a human has somehow constructed guns with the ability to fire spells. Genies are normally resistant to offensive magic, but Soleil knows from experience that the enchanted revolvers harm all creatures equally.

Resurrection is one of the few limitations to a Genie’s abilities. Not even magic should be able to bring a person back from death. Recently, though, Flarence saw a corpse not only rise but also fight. Endowed with incredible speed and strength, the revived man seeks revenge on his murderers.

To make matters worse, Darren (the third member of the Genie “family”) is still missing. He's been lying low, biding his time, but hasn’t forgotten about Officer Tymbir, and has every intention of settling their score.

Darren, the revived corpse, and the man with the magic guns have a list of people to kill, and are eager to spill blood. With the help of Mohinaux and Claire, Soleil and Flarence rush to locate them, uncover the sources of their powers, and find a way to stop them.

This book is perfect for adults who want to get in touch with their inner child!

***** Review by 14 Year Old Carmen Otto *****

I called Hugh Fritz a genius after reading his first book, Made to be Broken, and my opinion of him hasn't waivered. There are lots of plot twists in his writing and nothing is predictable. Public Display of Aggression would be fine on it's own, but after reading and loving Made to be Broken, I certainly appreciate following Soleil and Flarence on their journey. I gave the first book five stars (you can read more here: http://bringonlemons.blogspot.com/2019/11/carmen-otto-reviews-made-to-be-broken.html ) and I would similarly give Public Display of Aggression the same high marking.

My mom always asks who my favorite character is and why. In Public Display of Aggression, I would have to choose Soleil. There were plenty of times Soleil was scared but never allowed fear to stand in the way. In the last year, I've been fearful of many things and this upcoming year I'll be entering high school and maybe that's why the Soleil character resonates so strongly with me. Life is uncertain and it's fine to be fearful, but you just have to put one foot in front of the other. My sister's watch Frozen II all the time (too much if you ask me) and like they say in that movie: just do the next right thing.

Soleil kept doing the next right thing even in the face of fear. That's my takeaway from this book. I also enjoyed the fast pace and of course I love book series type books where you know there's more to come. Thanks to Hugh Fritz for writing Public Display of Aggression and thanks to WOW! Women on Writing for the opportunity to participate in this book blog tour. This is a book plenty of kids my age will enjoy - in fact I'm giving my copy to my younger brother because he loves the cover. I'm sure he will also love the characters and plot!
