Happy Mother's Day!! I haven't always been the best daughter - the truth is I've probably been one of the biggest pains in my mom's ass for most of my life. You know what is pretty amazing though? She's always bent over backwards for me. Sometimes I didn't appreciate the help or the advice - okay...most of the time I didn't appreciate it, but she was always there and unwavering in her commitment to me. I'm not going to get into the details of the hell I put my mom through, but I'll openly admit she has earned every one of those grey hairs and I have caused each and every one. What I do want to tell you about is what an awesome grandmother and mother my mom is. She reschedules her own social engagements and appointments to make sure she is available to babysit. She has learned more about car seat safety than she cares to, and at 70+ years old she spends every Sunday morning making breakfast for a family of 6 then entertaining the toddlers/infants ...

"Mom, what did you want to be when you were little?" I chuckled and answered truthfully: "A businesswoman in a suit, high heels, and pantyhose" My seven year old daughter looked at me with that inquisitive (I see right through you) look and said "I'm glad you're just a mom" She didn't mean any disrespect at all and a seven year old saying 'just a mom' has a totally different meaning than when one of your peers says it. She's right though. Plain and simple, I'm just a mom to her. She hardly realizes that I work from home, manage our business, and she could care less about all the other things I do all day. She wouldn't mind if I ate bonbons and watched soap operas. She truthfully only cares about my role as a mom. As long as there is a snack after school, toilet paper in the bathroom, and clean clothes in her closet she is quite satisfied that I'm doing my job. Who Would Have Thought.... that I would so thoroughly enjoy being a mother? Yup - you heard me...my life did NOT lose all meaning and direction when I no longer had a paycheck or fancy title. I now have the most rewarding title of all: MOM I learn something new every day. I am reminded to love more deeply. I am learning to appreciate our differences, embrace our quirks, and I'm finding more joy than I ever thought possible.
