This book was the perfect length for small children, and the vivid images and bright colors made it an absolutely engaging read. Even the newest member of our family (who is just 6 months) had a fun time checking out the pictures. This was the first book we’ve read by Author, Suzy Liebermann, but we are excited to learn she has an entire list of children’s books to choose from. The children are as enthusiastic as I am about purchasing additional stories about Hugo and his friends. I would highly recommend The Real World/Hugo The Happy Starfish to other families! Book Review: Skeleton’s Key by Stacy Green By Crystal J. Casavant-Otto Earlier this year I stumbled across a book with a most beautiful cover. The cover of Stacy Green’s Tin God drew me to the book and her writing was absolutely captivating. Green has a talent for making characters come to life but also describes places and buildings with such depth and detail they come to life for the reader. I wanted to know more about Green and definitely wanted to read more of her books. I added myself to her mailing list and offered to become an early reader for future works. Green is now working toward the release of Skeleton’s Key and I am tickled pink to say that I was one of the first to read it. Because I had been so captivated with Tin God I knew I would either love or hate Skeleton’s Key . Green did not disappoint and I can honestly say I love Skeleton’s Key as much as I loved Tin God . You can read Skeleton’s Key as a standalone story or read Tin God first (both books are part ...

Book Review: Cracks in the Sidewalk by Bette Lee Crosby By Crystal J. Casavant-Otto Cracks in the Sidewalk peaked my curiosity from the word go. As Claire explained her desire for a large family I found myself immediately drawn to her. As an only child myself, I completely understand the desire to surround one’s self with children and dreams of grandchildren. My heart broke when she received the news that she would only have one child. I could only imagine Claire’s incredible joy when she was blessed with three lovely grandchildren. I actually stopped reading Cracks in the Sidewalk when Claire’s daughter began having troubles with her pregnancy. I am 31 weeks pregnant myself and the details of Crosby’s writing and how the characters feel so real just hit too close to home. I was able to put the book down but I still couldn’t put the characters out of my mind. The Tenth Circle By Jodi Picoult Review by Crystal J. Casavant-Otto   The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult, published by Washington Square Press is a fabulous work of dramatic fiction. The paperback version was released in 2006 and I’m ashamed to say that it took me this long to lay my hands on it. This is a great book for young adults as well as those who are young at heart. The Tenth Circle appealed to me as a parent but vividly brought me back to those years of middle school and high school.  Devoted husband and father, Daniel Stone, is brought back to his own childhood as he struggles to put the pieces of his family puzzle back together. The story and the characters are sure to draw you in and take your breath away. The rebellious artist falls in love with the good girl and gets her pregnant. Not So Long Ago, Not So Far Away by Trisha Slay Review by Crystal J. Casavant-Otto I don’t remember watching Star Wars and I was born two months after it was released in theaters, but novelist Trisha Slay made me feel as if I had been there in the theater taking in each frame of the film. Slay’s novel , Not So Long Ago, Not So FarAway was so well written that I imagined myself a troubled teenager, coming of age and being transformed during the summer months of 1977. Erika (the lead character) is the reason I loved this book, because she is every teenager girl; awkward in her own skin and unsure of herself. Not only does she struggle for acceptance, but struggles will self-doubt. Erika doesn’t see what the rest of the town sees which makes her character so real.
