I Love You with My Whole Heart - Confession of a Mom of Many

Happy Saturday from Wisconsin...where Mother Nature is throwing some sort of tween temper tantrum. A few days ago we were outside enjoying the sunshine without our sweatshirts on. Today, I wish I had my winter jacket, scarf, and mittens. I just had a fabulous conversation with a long time friend. She's busy with her first baby who isn't even a year yet, and she just found out she's expecting another little love nugget. I remember like it was yesterday... You love your first baby with your whole heart. The moment you see the + on the pregnancy test, you fall in love and that love deepens when you hold them in your arms. Your heart is so full of love. The first time they say "Ma Ma" you are certain your heart is going to explode. Of course you are tired, some days you aren't sure you were cut out for this important role, but at the end of the day you are totally and completely in love with this tiny human. Fast forward - you are having another one. Exc...

Morning Sickness Is...funny?

By definition, this is what morning sickness is: nausea in pregnancy, typically occurring in the first few months. Despite its name, the nausea can affect pregnant women at any time of day. As a 39 year old mother with a child in diapers, a dairy farm, a Labrador retriever, school age children, blah blah blah...morning sickness is: living in a world where everything has a smell and every smell makes you want to vomit 24 HOURS A FRIGGIN' DAY.... Yesterday morning, the 3 year old was up at 3am throwing up. My amazing husband helped take care of him, but I spent the day washing and cleaning and I swear I can still smell vomit every time I try to take in oxygen. The dog who goes out to the barn smells like he has been rolling around in deer carcasses which he has not, but between his breath and heaven knows what else, I swear he is a larger than life dragon living in the middle of my kitchen. Speaking of the kitchen - I don't want to eat, I don't want to cook, I don...

She's Getting a Promotion...and we swear this is the LAST baby!

I kind of like doing things a little different than most. If you follow this blog, you likely know that already. We announced we are having another baby. This will be the LAST one as I'm closing in on 40 and I'll be the big Four Oh by the time baby gets here. Anyway - we made the announcement at our 2 year old's birthday party. She looks pretty happy about it, right? (keep in mind at 2, you'll smile about anything as long as you're having a good hair day and there's chocolate-cake a plenty) but seriously. there's lots of rule-breaking going on here: A) I've been told you should never announce something about one child at another child's special event B) I've been told you should never announce you are pregnant until you are out of the first trimester C) I've been told you shouldn't want a large family in today's economy and this day and age D) I've been told that getting pregnant at advanced maternal age is a bad idea ...

What Was I Thinking?

I didn't get much sleep the night before last. My husband has this alarm issue that I won't go into, but I will just tell you that from 12:30am until 5:30am either his phone or his alarm were going off every ten minutes. I love him dearly and wouldn't want him sleeping anywhere other than right next to me ... but I would have preferred a solid five hours of sleep as opposed to eight minute increments. Last night I didn't get much sleep either - and I was really optimistic about it. I purchased a body pillow which I was confident would help me sleep better and wake up more refreshed (for those who have never slept with me, I'm a tummy sleeper - but with this baby in my belly, that doesn't work so well). The pillow made all the difference in the world and I was snoring, drooling, and dreaming in no time. Weird dreams too ... but again, that's a story for a different day. At nearly 1am I heard screaming from my little guy who is four. I jumped out of bed and ra...
