Book Review by Penny Harrison for Wave Rider; A Poetic Journey From Abuse to Wholeness

Thank you to WOW! Women on Writing and Penny Harrison as well as Rebecca Pott Fitton. Without these amazing friends this lovely post would not be possible! Hugs, ~Crystal Wave Rider: Poetic Journey from Abuse to Wholeness Review by Penny Harrison I enjoy the opportunities book reviews provide me to read styles of literature and topics that I may not have sought out on my own. This was true this time, as well. While I used to write poetry, I very seldom read more than a poem or two. From the very first paragraph, however, I knew this wasn't your typical book of sonnets. The book details the self described "Poetic Journey" that Rebecca takes throughout her life, lowest points to healing heights. Her words have the ability to draw a parallel to where she was in that moment and a place inside of your memory. While I may not hold the same spritiual beliefs, her path was profound and she refused to give up. Instead, she found a way to do more than survive...

Book Review - A Killer's Grace by Ronald Chapman - review by Tara Forst

Thank you to Tara Forst for today's review of: ”A Killer’s Grace” and thank you WOW! Women on Writing for allowing us this opportunity to participate in the book blog tour with Ronald Chapman. Review: Tara writes: I really enjoyed reading “A killer’s Grace” and following Pitcairn on his cathartic journey of understanding and forgiveness. Spurred by a letter he received from a convicted serial killer, Pitcairn dives into an uncharted world of self discover. This book brings a new light to the cycle of violence and mental illness, while constantly challenges what we as a society believe to be true about innocence. I very much appreciated how realistic the characters were. Chapman does an exquisite job drawing the reader into the emotions of each character and while illustrating character flaws with imagery describing past hurts through actions and reactions instead of simply stating them. Each communication drawing you further into an understanding of each character's unique...

Speak Out Against Bullying and Abuse

Posting this on both of my blogs - because I am feeling so incredibly passionate about it right now! http://relaxconsultingwi.blogspot.com/2013/01/speak-out-against-bullying-and-abuse.html Speak Out Against Bullying and Abuse What would you do if your child came home and told you that someone in their class was being abused or bullied? I bake my worries away, and the first thing I would want to do is pop another chocolate chip in my mouth to give myself some time to think about what to say. The most important thing to do is listen, so whether you pop another chip, or pour yourself a cup of coffee, you should encourage your child to tell you as much about the situation as possible. Once you have the facts as your child knows them, you can make an educated decision about what the next step should be. I’ll be honest with you, when my daughter came home telling me about one of the smaller boys in her class who was being bullied, my gut reaction was: ·     ...
