Book Review (5 Star) by Crystal J. Casavant-Otto
I was hooked from the first page of Son of Saigon! I definitely have to start by saying this was NOT one of those books I handed to my 10 year old son or 11 year old daughter though - I absolutely recommend it for my adult friends, but there is quite a bit of adult "stuff" going on and my tweens aren't quite ready for that yet. With that said, the characters in this book drew me in immediately. I couldn't pick a favorite character if I tried - there was something I could relate to in each and every character - even the grumpy old Hank and his trusty sidekick Norm. David Myles Robinson is a talented storyteller and I appreciate how well the book was written and edited as well. Robinson definitely did his homework!
Son of Saigon is a book I hope to remember forever - there were many lessons to be learned, but the two I want to share with you are this:
Running away doesn't solve anything and could potentially make things worse for not only yourself, but those who love you.
Life doesn't end with retirement and the characters in the book show you this, but also the author himself. I love hearing about David Myles Robinson and his adventures!
Now go out and pick up your own copy of Son of Saigon so you can enjoy the adventure for yourself!!!
